Moo-Nahm Yum

Moo-Nahm Yum, MD 72, of Carmel, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his wife and three daughters on January 10, 2013. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Dr. Yum was the director of the electron microscopy laboratory, as well as a surgical and renal pathologist at Indiana University Hospital. He was also Professor Emeritus of Pathology at Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Yum received his medical degree from Yonsei University College of Medicine in Seoul, Korea in 1965, and completed residencies in pathology at Bronx Municipal Hospital, Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, and Harvard's Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He was a member of the IU Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine for 35 years, retiring in 2005. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Yum researched the nephrotoxicity of drugs and performed electron microscopic studies of various cancers. He has published multiple manuscripts in respected medical journals. Dr. Yum is survived by his wife, Kim; daughters Tammy (Steve) Latterell, Jamie (Austin) Potter, and Naomi (Justin) Lightburn; grandchildren Maddy, Nolan, Drew, Kate, Jack, Ava, Brooke, and Kaiya; two sisters and a brother. He was preceded in death by his parents Du-In and Bobbi Yum. A celebration of his life will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 100 W. 86th Street, Indianapolis on January 19, 2013 at 1:00 pm, with visitation beginning at 12:00 pm. Burial will be at Hamilton Memorial Park in Noblesville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation at www.parkinson.org.
