Miriam Carole Burgess

Miriam Carole Burgess, 70, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away surrounded by her family on May 17, 2014. She was born on September 29, 1943 in Lebanon, IN to Doyle and Mariam Smith and raised in Kirkland, IN. Carole married Harry Burgess Jr. on June 22, 1963 in Indianapolis. Carole and Harry lived on the South side of Indianapolis during the early years of their marriage before settling on the East side of Indianapolis and raising a family. Carole was a member of both Old Bethel United Methodist Church and the sorority of ψΙΞ (Psi Iota Xi). Carole worked for Eli Lilly and Company for 30 years and retired from there around 2000; she worked as an executive secretary for many prominent doctors in the medical branch at Eli Lilly. Carole is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Harry Burgess Jr., her daughter Christie (Jason) Herring and her son Harry (Penny) Burgess III, along with five grandchildren (Torie, Dakota, Justin, Harry IV, and Roland), her sister Tresann Waitt and brother Jim Smith. Visitation will be held at Flanner and Buchanan – Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington St., Indpls, IN from 4 to 8 pm on May 22 and the funeral service will be held at 1 pm on May 23; Carole will be interred at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood, IN. The Burgess family asks for donations to BrightFocus Foundation (brightfocus.org) for Alzheimer's Research in lieu of flowers to be made in the memory of Carole Burgess.
