Milford Eli Compo

Milford Eli Compo, 83, of Carmel passed away January 26, 2024.  He was born September 24, 1940, in Potsdam, New York, the son of Eli DeForest Compo and Josephine Ida (Perry) Compo Gratton.  He married Lana Deanetta Hartwig on May 1, 1965, in Duluth, MN where he was stationed.  Mil graduated from Albany State University with a B.S. degree in Education and later received an M.B.A. at the University of Dayton.

Mil proudly and honorably served in the United States Air Force earning the rank of Major at the time of his retirement from the armed forces.  He then enjoyed a second career in banking, serving in different capacities ultimately as a Vice-President of Financial Systems Support at Huntington National Bank, retiring in 2007.  Mil was a longtime member of the Air Force Association, serving in several positions, one of them as President of AFA in Indiana.  Mil was instrumental in having the Weir Cook statue placed at Indianapolis International Airport. He enjoyed playing bridge with friends, classical music, sitting on the deck at home, or a Florida beach with a glass of wine while the sun went down. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lana Compo; two children, Matthew Eli (Lisa) Compo and Amanda Jo (Troy) Judd; two grandchildren, Scott Heffern II and Josie Judd; stepfather, Paul Gratton; two sisters, Sandra Campbell and Roberta Newman, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff in the ICU unit at IU Hospital North for the wonderful care they gave our husband and father.

A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan - Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive, Carmel, Indiana on May 1, 2024.  Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.  Memorial contributions may be directed to The American Cancer Assoc., or The Wounded Warrior Project.  Online condolences may be shared by visiting www.flannerbuchanan.com.
