Mildred W. Stovall, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026, at the age of 94.

Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on March 2, 1932, Mildred lived a life defined by unwavering faith, compassion, strength, and devotion to her family. She had a special gift for making others feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Her beautiful smile, infectious laughter, thoughtful advice, home-cooked meals, and unforgettable hugs brought comfort and joy to all who knew her.

Mildred’s faith in the Lord guided her throughout her life. She was an active member of several church communities, where she lovingly served in nurseries and toddler classes and participated in outreach efforts supporting children, families, and those in need. Her faith was reflected not only in her prayers, but also in her lifelong dedication to serving others and extending kindness to those around her.

She was also generous in her support of charitable organizations, particularly those dedicated to children, women’s causes, and disabled veterans. Above all, Mildred adored her family, which remained the heart of her life.

While attending Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis, Mildred met her beloved Linzie Stovall. The two soon married and began building a life and family together. With determination and perseverance, she later completed her GED. Throughout her life, Mildred held various jobs before establishing a dedicated career at Methodist Hospital, where she ultimately retired as a supervisor.

Following the passing of her beloved husband, Linzie, Mildred courageously raised their six children, providing them with steadfast love, strength, and guidance. Her resilience, sacrifices, and unwavering devotion shaped the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The love she poured into her family will be felt for generations to come.

Beyond her work and church, Mildred found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed traveling, watching crime dramas and movies, completing intricate jigsaw puzzles, tending to her plants and garden, and caring for her beloved parakeets and aquariums. She especially loved capturing family gatherings with her iPhone, preserving precious moments and memories that her family will continue to treasure.

Mildred is survived by her children: Chancellor (Mary) Stovall; Pearl Stovall (Roderick I) Davis; Al (Val) Stovall; Josie Stovall (Ernest II) Newborn; and Julius (Marjorie) Stovall.

She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: LaTashia Kuhlke, Octavia Stovall, Nikita Stovall, Alecia Stovall, Frederick Stovall, Sean Holman, Marcus Holman, Brandon Holman, Jeremy Davis, Joshua Davis, Jessica Davis, Roderick Davis II, Austin Stovall, Ernest Newborn III, Joseph Newborn, Julius Stovall Jr., and Jordan Griffin; along with 28 beloved great-grandchildren—13 boys and 17 girls.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chancellor Levy Rose and Mary Elizabeth Rose (Smart); her beloved husband, Linzie L. Stovall; and her son, Linzie L. Stovall Jr.

Though she will be deeply missed, Mildred’s legacy of love, faith, kindness, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew her and in the generations she so lovingly nurtured.

Her family invites friends and loved ones to join in celebrating the remarkable life of a woman whose greatest gift was love.

A Visitation will be from 12:00pm - 2:00pm with a Celebration of Life held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Flanner Buchanan- Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd. W. Dr., Indianapolis, Indiana. Family and friends will gather to share memories and honor Mildred’s life, faith, and enduring legacy.
