Mildred L. Cole Hancock

March 22, 1920 — October 18, 2011

Mildred L. Hancock, born March 22, 1920 to John B and Ina Cole in Aurora, Indiana. She married Harold L Hancock Jr. (deceased) in 1941 and is survived by her three children. Larry L. Hancock(Tampa FL) Donna M White (Indianapolis, IN) and John P. Hancock (Fishers, IN) Mildred first came to Indianapolis at the age of 19 after living in Los Angeles CA for a short time. Her first job in Indianapolis was at the donut shop in the English Hotel on the circle. Shortly after arriving in Indianapolis she met her future husband while working in the Downy Dunker Donut shop. Harold saw her through the donut shop window and decided that the price of a donut was well worth the chance to meet the pretty girl behind the counter. As they say…the rest is history. From 1951 to 1976 she worked at Kroger Grocers stores. After a few months of retirement she decided to reenter to work force and spent the next 25 years working for White Industries. At the age of 80 she started volunteering as a reading tutor in the Warren Township Schools with the Oasis Program. She loved children and reading so this was a perfect vocation. She has 5 siblings. Stanley Cole (deceased), Marie Fussnecker (deceased), John Cole Jr. (deceased), Bill Cole ,Rising Sun, IN and Ralph Cole, Rising Sun, IN She is survived by 7 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Mildred loved to travel and traveled with the Ambassadair travel club to China, Russia, Norway, Australia, Ireland, Alaska and many other countries in Europe. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Monday, October 24, 2011 at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center 10722 E. Washington St. With visitation after 10:00 am prior to the funeral service. Entombment, Washington Park East Cemetery. A special thanks to the staff at Rittenhouse Senior Living for their support and loving care.
