Fishers, Indiana – Michael S. Whitaker, 74, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025. His caring and generous nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him and especially his family.
Mike was born on August 9, 1950, to parents Henry & Wilma (Crick) Whitaker in Indianapolis, Indiana. A graduate of Arlington High School, where he was an All-Star City Pitcher for 1967-68 Golden Knights. Mike was a long-time insurance agent whose hands on approach to his work was appreciated by his employers and clients. He spent over twenty years with Western Reserve Insurance before his retirement in 2017.
Mike married the love of his life, Evelyn, on August 15, 1970. They celebrated 53 years of marriage before her passing in 2023.
Mike had several passions in his life. He had a deep seeded love of nature and animals, especially his dogs, letting it take shape as a hobby in wildlife photography, taking thousands of photos over the years. An accomplished runner, he completed several marathons over the years as well. He also enjoyed traveling, seeing sites like the Grand Canyon or completing the entire distance of Route 66. When not on the road for work or fun, he collected clocks of all kinds, and fastidiously maintained his lawn and home. But no matter where he was, Mike was never far from a cold Diet Coke.
Mike’s biggest love was his family though. Dedicated to them through his entire life, Mike was always there for his children and experienced the joy of being a grandfather before his passing.
Mike is survived by his children, Jason Whitaker, Sean Whitaker (Melissa), and Jill Whitaker; sister Victoria Cooper; grandchild Roman Michael Whitaker; and nephew Shane Cooper.
