Anyone who met Michael Warrick is sure to be smiling now remembering his wisdom, fun-loving attitude, clever jokes, magic tricks, and his welcoming presence that simply brought joy to your day. His 82 years of warming the hearts and lives around him came to a close on Saturday January 9, 2021 as he passed away at his home in Carmel surrounded by family.
Mike was born in Pittsburg, Texas to Burke & Lucille (Whiteman) Warrick in 1938 and grew up in Whitehall, Arkansas. After securing Bachelor’s Degrees in Chemistry, Biology, and a Masters in Biochemistry from the University of Arkansas, he moved to Lake Jackson, Texas to work for Dow Chemical. Relocating to Indianapolis in 1968, he worked at Eli Lilly & Company for 33 years as a Research Biochemist.
He was married for 61 years to his high school sweetheart, Patricia Pierce. Mike enjoyed traveling with his family, including cruises, beaches, and exotic destinations around the world. As a father, he coached many sports teams at Meridian Street United Methodist Athletic Program, served as an assistant scoutmaster and canoe instructor for Boy Scouts, and was an all-around encourager and mentor to hundreds of kids. While serving on the Eagle Creek Park Foundation Board, one of his favorite activities was organizing the annual fishing derby for Indianapolis youth. Later in life, he cherished time spent at his grandchildren’s various activities. Mike also enjoyed creating stained glass art with Pat, often sharing their art with friends and family. He never met a stranger and made special bonds with coworkers, neighbors and anyone who crossed his path.
Mike leaves behind his wife, Patricia; son Marc (Joan) and grandchildren Matthew, Jackson & Christine, as well as his son Jon (Julie) and grandsons Nathan, Caleb & Zachary. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Patrick Warrick (Billie).
He was a long-time member of Meridian Street United Methodist Church and later at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. A small private memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Eastern on Saturday, January 16 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Carmel. The service will also be streamed online via St. Mark’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/stmarkscarmel.
