Michael Seery, 84, of Carmel, Indiana, and Sarasota, Florida, went home to the Lord on July 6, 2026, surrounded by “his girls” who adored him.
Michael was born on January 18, 1942, in Sydney, Australia, to Ronald and Mary Seery. After Mary’s death, Ronald married Lilian Seery, who helped raise Michael. He is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth Hallam (Mike) and Angela Hasler (Geoff), as well as his beloved cousin, Patty Hill (Bob).
Michael attended St. Joseph's College in Hunters Hill, New South Wales, Australia. He pursued a degree in pharmacy at the University of Sydney. In 1965, he began what would become a challenging and rewarding 28-year career with Eli Lilly and Company. His first assignment with Eli Lilly took him to manufacturing facility in Basingstoke, England, where he met Susan Macklin. They were married in 1967 and soon afterward began their lives together in the United States.
Michael was a lifelong, faithful Catholic who was rarely without a rosary in his pocket. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he thoughtfully shared it with his beloved wife, Susan, and their three daughters: Michelle Lantz (Kirby), Christina Laufter (Ross), and Carolyn Blackham (Matthew). While Michael affectionately referred to them as "dear," "costly," and "expensive", there was never any doubt that each of them was treasured beyond measure.
Proud to be a "Lilly Kind of Guy," Michael took on retirement with the same gusto he brought to everything in his life. He and Susan enjoyed traveling, tennis, boating, canoeing, and biking. He served on various boards in the Sarasota area. Michael liked to spend quiet afternoons on the patio with The Wall Street Journal in hand, watching the water—often with a well-earned nap mixed in. Family and friends knew they could always count on Michael for thoughtful advice, practical solutions, and steady wisdom. His daughters affectionately referred to Michael and Susan as the "Armchair Council," knowing there was no problem they thought they couldn’t solve.
Nothing brought Michael greater joy than his six grandchildren: Joseph Michael Laufter, Ava Pearl Laufter, Mia Claire Lantz, Carter Michael Lantz, Katherine Mary Blackham, and Emily Elizabeth Blackham. It is no surprise that each of his grandsons carry his name. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now cheering them on from his heavenly recliner.
Michael's family will celebrate his life with a private Mass of Christian Burial. They are deeply grateful for the many prayers, kindnesses, and expressions of love they have received, and they ask for your continued prayers for the repose of Michael's soul.
