Michael S. Impink, 64, died on October 24, 2014. Michael was diagnosed with chronic hepatitis C in 1993 and he fought the disease with tremendous spirit and resolve, never losing his hope or dignity. Michael was born on December 3, 1949, in Reading, PA to parents, John V. and Anna L. (Freehafer) Impink. He graduated from Reading Senior High School and Lehigh University where he earned B.S. and MBA degrees. He was an accomplished football player and member of Chi Psi Fraternity at Lehigh. He worked for Alcoa for 26 years in sales and management positions before retiring. He was a devoted father, husband, and friend who treasured attending his children's activities and coaching his children in sports. He especially enjoyed being a youth sports coach and he was an active coach for many years. He highly valued education and he never waivered in making sure that his family had the best education that he could provide. He was an abstract painter and metal sculptor and his work was shown in many exhibits and shows throughout the United States. He was a Board Member of St. Mark's Garden, an Indiana prisoner reintegration program. He was a Board Member of ARK, an Indianapolis hepatitis C support group. He was a founding member of Paint the Town, a volunteer program that paints houses for Indianapolis residents in need. He received the 2011 City of Indianapolis "Mayor's Community Service Award" for his work with Paint the Town. He also received the 2011 Southeast Neighborhood Development Volunteer of the Year Award. Also, he was a volunteer at the Eiteljorg Museum for many years. He was a long time member of Mensa. He is survived by a daughter and son; Danielle (Chris) Deery of Audubon, NJ; and Matthew R. Impink of Indianapolis, IN; and two grandchildren Patrick S. Deery and Nora A. Deery of Audubon, NJ. A private memorial service will be held.
