Indianapolis – Michael Scott Brockway, 64, died Friday, May 1, 2015 at his home on the east side of Indianapolis.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Maria Brockway. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Fran Meagher Brockway; his children: Michael Shawn (Lonna) Brockway, Kelleen Marie (William) Stansifer, Katrina Ann Brockway and Bradley James Brockway, six grandchildren and his beloved dog Maysee; his father: Lyle Gene (Roberta) Brockway, Siblings: Kenneth L. (Barbara) Brockway, Robert C. (Maryann) Brockway, Ann (Scott) Brockway-Robare.
Born in Vicksburg, Michigan, he attended a one-room schoolhouse as a young child before graduating from Vicksburg High School in 1968. He then attended Michigan State University, where he met his wife. In 1972 he graduated from Michigan State with a Bachelor of Science in Business and Mathematics.
After completing his education, Mr. Brockway had the opportunity to join Spartan Travel, and spent many years working for various major players in the travel industry. His work led him to travel to distant lands, including the Grand Cayman Islands and Vienna, Austria.
Mr. Brockway had a passion for his children, supporting their interests in sports, theater, choir and further education. He coached sports teams, and became a widely respected umpire within the local youth baseball league.
In 1998, Mr. Brockway gave up the corporate life in exchange for a higher calling. He enrolled in Christian Theological Seminary, earned his Masters of Divinity and became a pastor. For more than 15 years, he served the people of his various congregations as minister, teacher and friend.
Visitation will take place on Thursday May 7 and on Friday May 8 a funeral service at the church will follow. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that donations be made to Sunrise United Methodist Church and designated for Sunrise Missions.
