Michael O'Neal Filer was born November 19, 1952 here in Indianapolis to the late Ervin O'Neal Filer of Marianna, Arkansas, and Ollie (Connell) Filer of St. Louis, Missouri. "Mike" graduated from George Washington High School in June of 1971. He furthered his education at Vincennes University where he
studied Industrial Drafting Technology.
Mike later started work in 1973 as a Draftsman at what was then known as Detroit Diesel Allison. From Draftsman, he attained positions of Checker, Group Supervisor, and Product Manager. Michael separated from the company, now known as Rolls-Royce, in April 2008 after 35 years of service.
Mike accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and was baptized in 1975. He joined Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Board.
Mike proposed to his wife on Valentine's Day in 1976, and they united in
marriage that year on September 4 in her home town of Norfolk, Virginia. They celebrated 38 years of each other's love and commitment this past September.
Mike was a quiet, easy going, and a no-nonsense kind of person; he greatly
disliked drama. He was a stickler for organization and attention to details. He often lent a hand to elderly friends and neighbors. He was an "adopted" son and brother to several. He will truly be missed by many.
Mike's interest and hobbies included working on cars, attending and watching racing car events, riding motorcycles, woodworking, photography, grilling and bar-b-queing (he said there is a difference), military and aeronautical history, watching old TV westerns, and listening to books on tape and his generous collection of jazz CDs.
Mick leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Millicent; his sons Jeffrey Filer (Margo), Andre Filer, Michael William Filer, and Matthew Filer; grandchildren Eric and Jasmine Filer; a brother, Julian Filer; a sister, Karen Filer Wilson; two aunts, Dr. Claire Lockman Boyce (Melvin), and Linda Lockman-Brooks (Will); two nieces, Krystal Wilson and Morgan Thompson; five nephews, Melvin Boyce, Lockman Boyce, Garrett Brooks, Dominique Wilson and Kevin Wilson. Included, also, are a great number of loving cousins, extended family, and friends. Two brothers, Ervin Filer, Jr., and Elgie Filer preceded him in death.
