Michael "Mike" Waskom
On April 3, 1942, Mike was born to Doyle Franklin and Elthie Mae Scott Waskom. His younger years were spent at Garden City Christian Church. He was a cub scout and he learned to shoot muzzle loaders at the Marion County Fish and Game Club.
Mike graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1961. During his high school career, Mike played the clarinet in the marching band. He was privileged to travel to Washington D.C. his senior year to march in John F. Kennedy's Inaugural Parade.
March 21, 1965, Mike married Charlotte Lynn Cummins. Their family grew to include Donna Kaye and Dean Michael (married to Olga). They were also gifted with 6 grandchildren; Samuel, Robin, Emily, Benjamin, Emma and Leah. They divorced in 1997.
On October 25, 2008, Mike married Barbara Beard and they remained married until his death. The family grew when he gained Bonus daughters; Karen (Geoff) Crooks, Karla (Marty) Kincade, and Jamie (Brandon) May. He also was gifted with Bonus grandchildren; Daniel (Melanie) Beard, Jennifer (Chad) Beard, Zacharie (Brittany) Beard, Kristopher Barnett, Brandon Jr and Carl May, Heather (Robert) Gordon, and Michael Dodson.
Mike attended Chapel Rock Christian Church as an adult, but spent his later years as a member of Seerley Creek Christian Church. He loved his church family at Seerley Creek and greatly enjoyed bible study and Sunday school.
Mike spent the majority of his working years at Stewart Warner. He also worked on computers both for employment and for fun! He retired from American Trans Air, where he worked as a reservation specialist.
Mike had many hobbies. He enjoyed all types of music from Bluegrass to Tchaikovsky and had an extensive CD collection. Mike liked to go camping, hiking and fishing. He also loved electronic gadgets and learning about new technology. In his later years, he gained a great appreciation for birds and flowers from his mother. He loved researching and helping plant unusual flowers for her. As a younger man, he had a passion for riding roller coasters and was known to challenge his kids to who could ride the Wabash Cannonball the most times in one day!
Mike loved family time and would sit on the floor to play with his grandkids. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
