Michael “Mike” Malandrakis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He passed away surrounded by his wife and daughters on September 8, 2022 at the age of 72.
On November 3, 1949 Michael was born to Louis and Rose (Panas) Malandrakis in Wheeling, West Virginia. For much of his childhood he played basketball and football, and spent time with his grandmother.
After graduating from Warwood High School in 1967, he went on to West Liberty State College to pursue a degree in business. It was there that he met his loving wife of 51 years, Helen Varlas. During the summers of his college years, he worked in the family business, the Brown Derby restaurant, in Ohio.
After graduation, Mike and Helen moved to Indiana, where he established his career as an accountant at Biodynamics (now Roche). He later received his MBA from Butler, enabling him to go on to serve as CFO for New Medical Technology, the Indiana Masonic Home, and retired from Cabello Associates. They had two daughters, Maria and Christina, and in time, Mike became a grandfather to two little girls, Olivia and Ellie. One of his most treasured roles was being papou.
He also loved volunteering at his church, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, especially working the festival.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Annette Tysk, and brother, William Malandrakis.
Survivors include his wife, Helen, daughters, Maria (Chris) Demko, and Christina Malandrakis, granddaughters, Olivia and Eleanor Demko, sister, Dell Marie (Malandrakis) Tsoras, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
