Michael Lee Longere

Michael Lee Longere, 72 of Indianapolis, IN passed away on June 14, 2021. He was born October 28, 1948 in Indianapolis, IN to the late, Donald Eugene and Edna Mae (Neitzel) Longere. Michael attended Abraham Lincoln School #18, Manual high school and graduated from Southport High School where he excelled in basketball. Michael proudly served in the United States Navy as an airplane mechanic on the first nuclear Aircraft Carrier – Enterprise. After returning to Indianapolis Michael worked in Manufacturing Maintenance for Eli Lilly Company and many years for numerous companies. He was involved in the racing world driving quarter midgets as a young boy. He loved the water and spent his spare time at a cottage on Lake Freeman. Michael was an organ donor and even though his body was ravaged by cancer, he was able to donate his corneas after his death.
Known by many of his friends as “Frenchie” and “Uncle Monkey” by his nieces and nephews, he will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Michael is survived by his children, Michael Hummel, Tina Stutzman, Karissa Longere-Faulkner, Danielle Longere, Jaden Pruitt, 10 grandchildren and two great granddaughters: sisters, Donnae Longere-Dole, Carole MacQuarrie, his half- brother, Stephen Longere and three step siblings. He also had numerous nieces and nephews who loved him very much. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Cindy Lou (Landis) Longere and sister, Ruth Longere Starke. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Flanner and Buchanan Decatur Township at 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46221.
