It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mr. Michael David Highfield, 78. He passed away July 22, 2026, at home. He was born on September 1, 1947 in Greenville, Michigan to parents Jack and Marjorie Highfield.
Mike grew up in Greenville, Michigan and graduated from Greenville High School. He continued his education at the University of Michigan, receiving his undergraduate degree, and later attended George Washington Law School in Washington D.C. to receive his law degree in 1973. He practiced law for 40 years at Conlin, McKenny and Philbrick Law Offices in Ann Arbor, MI.
Michael was a diehard Wolverine fan his entire life and was a season ticket holder for football & basketball for 50 yrs, and later softball.
He became a serious runner in the 1970's and ran 31 marathons, including twelve Boston marathons. He later became a triathlete, winning his age group numerous times. In the 1990's, he became involved in USA Triathlon administration and later was elected the President of USA Triathlon. The first Olympics for Triathlon was Sydney 2000, and he was very involved in putting together our country’s first Olympic triathlon team.
Michael and his wife, Andrea, put together several charitable running events in Ann Arbor including BigHouse Big Heart and the Ann Arbor Marathon.
Michael & Andrea retired and moved to Indianapolis, IN to be closer to family. Michael has remained a Wolverine fan while enjoying the IU national football championship and watching the Fever play.
Michael is survived by his loving wife Andrea, his two children Chris (Nicole), Amanda (Chris) Eby, Powell, Ohio, his stepchildren, Christina (Tony) Weiry, Fishers, IN, Ashley Allen, Glenwood Springs, CO, Jonathan (Nicole) Allen, McCordsville, IN, Cameron (BJ) Crumes, Yorktown, IN. and his grandchildren, Jake Eby, Brendan Eby, Rylan Eby and Miles Eby. as well as Kaden Crumes, Oliver Weir, Declan Weir and Claire Allen, all very loved by Michael.
A private family burial will be held August 29, 2026 and a Celebration of Life event will be held at 1:30pm August 29 at Flanner & Buchanan Geist, 7855 Cork Rd, , Indianapolis, IN 46236
