Francis Michael “Mike” Gersich, 58, of Zionsville died October 15, 2010 after a courageous battle of nearly 8 years with brain cancer. Mike was born in Fort Ord, CA on February 19, 1952 to Nicholas J. Gersich, Sr. and Therese C. (Derusha ) Gersich. He graduated from Escanaba (MI) High School, and received his BS from the University of Michigan, his MS from Central Michigan University, and completed his doctoral and post-doctoral degrees at the University of Idaho. Mike was employed for 29 1/2 years by The Dow Chemical Company and Dow AgroSciences.
Mike was a devoted family man, a loyal friend, and a respected colleague. He enjoyed hunting, golf, and football, and was a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers and Michigan Wolverines. His compassion for others was evident in the things he supported; Mike served on the board of the Humane Society and was active with United Way and other charities.
Mike is survived by his wife, Lana D. Grizzle Gersich; daughter Sara M. Moore; mother Therese C. Gersich; brother Nick (Cindy) Gersich; sisters Judi (Jim) King and Rebekka (Greg) Budz; nieces and nephews Trisha (Jason) DeGrand, Mikki Gersich, Rick (Rena) DeGrave, Kristy Thornton, Sarah King, Emily and Hunter Budz. He is also survived by his beloved Scotties, Rose and Zep. Mike was preceded in death by his father Nicholas J. Gersich, Sr.
Calling will be Thursday, October 21, 2010 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Christ Church, the Lutheran Church of Zionsville, 600 N. Ford Road.
