Michael Garvey

December 18, 1955 — April 26, 2011

Michael R. Garvey, 55 of Indianapolis, died at home with his wife at his side on April 26, 2011, following a two year battle with cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many. Michael was born December 18, 1955 in Springfield, IL to Michael and Joan (Glendening) Garvey. Michael attended Brebeuf High School in Indianapolis and Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. Michael worked as Home Building Supervisor for Ryland Homes. He was a long-time active parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. He enjoyed reading, cooking, spending time with family and friends, and working on his home. He was the family go-to person for home improvement, cooking tips, wry comments, and practical jokes (especially with the kids.) Michael’s sense of humor always leaned toward the darker side, as evidenced by his love of Charles Addams. He found joy and peace in and was comforted by his deep faith in Jesus Christ. Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon (Slaughter) Garvey; children, Sean (Stephanie) Waiss of Sturtevant, WI, Stefan (Rhoda) Waiss of Sarasota, FL, Sabrina (Mehran) Rashidfarokhy of Alexandria, VA, Bruce (Katie) Henderson III of Indianapolis, Daniel Wilson of Norfolk, VA and, Roseanne (Rod) Abacherli of Reading, CA; grandchildren, Tyler, Lauren, and Kyle Waiss of Sturtevant, WI, Triston and Liam Waiss of Sarasota, FL, and Jonah, Sam and Ava Rashidfarokhy of Alexandria, VA; siblings, Kate (Bill) McKnight, Mary Garvey, Margaret (Ken) Bennett, Landry Foley, and Neil (Kristin) Garvey, all of Indianapolis, Patience (Steve) Denz of Columbus, OH, Justine (Jeff) Currie of Attica, IN, Kristin (Tom) Michel of South Bend, IN and Rachel (Rusty) Morris of Denver, CO, paternal aunt, Annette Pringle of Tulsa, OK and his maternal uncle and aunt, Dr. Richard and Ellen Glendening of Logansport, IN; twenty-three nieces and nephews, and one great-niece. He is also survived by many cousins, close friends, and his furry companion Rupert.
