Michael Alan Henegen, age 60, of Indianapolis, passed away on June 1, 2018. Michael was born in New Castle, IN on September 19, 1957 to his parents, Helen (Groce) and Richard J. Henegen, Jr. He graduated from Pendleton Heights High School and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Indiana University, where he often made the Dean’s List.
Michael was a born entrepreneur. While in high school, he started a vegetable market on his grandmother’s farm in Cataract, Indiana. He later would own Red Star Concessions, a corndog wagon he operated before going on to own and operate Yesteryears, a restaurant in Greenwood, IN. Michael also had a long and successful career in banking. He was a dedicated banker with INB (and through many other name changes) for 29 years. He then went on to work as a Compliance Officer with Salin Bank for the next 11 years.
Michael was an avid sports fan, especially IU Basketball, Butler Basketball, Colts Football, and the Indianapolis 500. He also enjoyed running in numerous mini-marathons all over the United States. He was always spontaneous and adventurous and loved to just pick up and go on a trip. He particularly enjoyed his three trips to Europe and his travels to Hawaii.
Michael was extremely caring and devoted to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his husband, Timothy Dahn; his sister, Kelli Allen (Tony); nieces, Brooke Van Hook and Ally Allen; nephew, Brogan Van Hook; step-mother, Marilyn Henegen; step-brothers, Andy Knowling and Louis, Jason and Eric Kropp; step-niece, Cassie Knowling; and many other loving family and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Richard J. Henegan, Jr. and mother, Helen (Groce) Henegen Knowling.
Family and friends may call from 4pm until 8pm on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 and additionally from 1pm until 2pm on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Flanner Buchanan- Broad Ripple, 1305 Broad Ripple Avenue. Funeral services will immediately follow calling on Thursday at 2pm. Burial will be in Grove Lawn Cemetery, Pendleton, IN.
Charitable contributions in Michael’s memory are encouraged to the Humane Society of Indianapolis or the Madison County Humane Society.
