Merton Robert Barry
89 of Carmel, IN, formerly of Madison, Wisconsin, stepped into heaven on Tuesday, August 28, 2012. He was born May 19, 1923 to Ambrose Barry and Irma May Hoard Barry. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Pearson Barry, and greatly loved step-children Ron (Sally) Pearson, Bonnie (Tom) Edgerton, grandchildren, Corey (Alexis) Pearson, Kyle (Eric ) Trost, John Pearson, Jake (Erin Kay) Edgerton, Josh (Lolly) Edgerton, Luke (Ashlee) Edgerton, great-grandchildren, Steele Trost, Atticus Pearson, Becket Edgerton.
Merton's degrees are from the University of Wisconsin where he was Professor Emeritus. He was a teacher in the Department of General Engineering; Director of International Engineering Programs; Member UPADI Committee and U.S. National Commission for UNESCO. He spent a year studying jewelry making in Zurich, and was a Fulbright Scholar in the Netherlands from 1949 to 1950.
He was a Veteran of WWII and a life-long member of the Methodist Church.
Mert was an extremely generous man who certainly had a heart for anyone who was in need, especially the Haitian people. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Memorial visitation will be Monday, September 10, 2012 from 3:00 to 7:00 at Broad Ripple United Methodist 6185 Guilford Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46220. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, September 11, 2012 with 1 hour calling there at church. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Broad Ripple United Methodist Church, Midland United Methodist Church, Mazomanie, Wisconsin or Schools for Haiti Inc. 301 Wyota St. Cassville, WI 53806
