Melvin "Joe" Elder, 90, of Indianapolis, passed away June 20. Joe was born in Indianapolis the son of Elbert Vern and Marie (Henry) Elder. He was a WW II US Navy Veteran and was a Seabee in the South Pacific. Joe was an electrician and a member of I.B.E.W Local 481 for 65 years. Joe was a member of the Greenfield American Legion and VFW. He was also active in Scouting having formed a Troop in Greenfield. Joe was a member of the Pleasant Lodge #134 F & AM, Scottish Rite and the Murat Temple. He was a longtime member of the Franklin Central Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Norma (Cooperider) Elder in 2000 and his son Michael Elder in 2010.
Joe is survived by his son Garry of Indianapolis, daughter in law, Sherry Elder; grandchildren, Michele Spargur, Jennifer Young and Joe Elder all of Indianapolis and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am Monday, June 25, 2012 at Flanner and Buchanan, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46229. Visitation will be held 4-7 pm Sunday, June 24 at the funeral home with a Masonic Service at 6:30pm. Entombment will be in Washington Park East Cemetery.
