Mella Jo Montgomery Thompson, 79, of Indianapolis, died peacefully at home October 24, 2010. Mella was born in Moulton, Alabama December 7, 1930. Mella Jo’s life was a beautiful example of femininity, modesty, graciousness, and generosity. She loved gardening; had a beautiful collection of angels; and cherished time with dear friends, her children, grandchildren, and great grand babies. Mella Jo was retired from Rock Island Refinery where she was executive secretary to the president. She was a member of the Zionsville United Methodist Church, Alpha Gamma Chapter of Delta Sigma Kappa, and served on the board of directors of the Winkler Foundation. Mrs. Thompson is survived by her children, Susan Keeker and Randy Thompson (Jan); her grandchildren, Emily Kinley (Jason), Matthew Keeker (Allison), and Andrew Thompson; her great grandchildren, Oliver, Isabel, and Jonathan Kinley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Minnie Virginia Barrett Montgomery; her brother, Raymond L. Montgomery; and her son, Timothy Charles Thompson. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm, Friday, October 29, 2010 at Flanner and Buchanan funeral Center, Zionsville. A funeral service will be 11 am Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the Zionsville United Methodist Church, 9644 Whitestown Rd, Zionsville. Entombment will follow the service at Washington Park North Cemetery, Indianapolis.
