Meda (Campbell) Lorton,
93, of Indianapolis, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2011. Meda was born on January 14, 1918 in Indianapolis to Arthur E. and Rubie O. (Ewing) Campbell. She was a social worker for 40 years. Meda worked with Indianapolis Public School students until she moved to Denver, Colorado in 1955. She was employed by the Denver Public Schools and was their supervisor until 1964. At one point in her career, Meda left the schools and became the Director of Social Services to the Dept. of Mental Retardation. Her last employment was with Jefferson County Schools in Lakewood Colorado, as the Director of Social Services; where her staff had grown from just 4 people to 75. They worked with children who had serious emotional and educational problems. Meda moved back home to Indiana and retired on a farm in Crawfordsville. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lorton, who passed away in 1962. Meda is survived by the many people whose lives were touched by her compassion; and close friends, Phyllis A. Imel and Delores Rohl. A graveside service will be held at Washington Park East Cemetery on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 11:30am. Contributions in memory of Meda may be given to the Teacher's Treasures 1800 E. 10th St. Indianapolis.
