Max Lewis, Sr. 102, of Indianapolis, peacefully passed away November 17, 2011.
Max was born June 24, 1909 in Michigan to Cloyse S. and Alta A. Lewis.
Max graduated from Tech High School and attended Purdue University before starting his 47 year career with Indiana Bell, one of the oldest telephone pioneers of America. He was state president of Optimous, chairman of the Advisory Council for the State Natural Resource Board, worked with the State Chamber of Commerce on various special projects, was awarded Sagamore of the Wabash, volunteered at Crossroad Rehabilitation working with children, volunteered at Meals on Wheels, an elder at Northwood Christian Church, before becoming a charter member of Crestview church.
Max married Helen Arzet on October 20, 1934. They celebrated 76 years of marriage prior to her passing on August 7, 2011.
Helen and Max were members of the 7th and 8th Christian Church and always participated in church activities.
Max Lewis is survived by sons, Max (Mary) Lewis, Jr. of Eatonton, GA, John (Maureen)Lewis of Indianapolis, David (Connie)Lewis of Houston, TX; daughter Patricia (Thomas) Pinkley of Plainfield; sister-in-law Betty Arzet, nephew David (Suzanne) Combs; 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
A private family memorial service is being planned. Memorial contributions can be made to Crossroad Rehabilitation of the 7th and 8th Christian Church, 2916 W. 30th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46222.
Max will be entombed next to Helen in the Washington Park North Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Flanner and Buchanan Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd. W. Drive Indianapolis, IN
