Maurice Rougraff

Dr. Maurice “Doc” Rougraff, 95, died peacefully on August 12, 2021. Born on April 6, 1926, “Doc” as he was nicknamed since childhood, grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated early from high school to serve in the Army Air Force during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he attended and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh where he met the love of his life, Regina DiLeonardo, whom he married on June 14, 1952. Upon graduation from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and an internship at St Margaret’s hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, he began his general practice in Pittsburgh. He continued his medical practice until 1962, when he began working in the medical department at American United Life Insurance company in Indianapolis, IN. He retired in 1991 as medical director and past president of the American Academy of Insurance Medicine. In retirement he and Regina became very involved in many aspects of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Cicero, IN. Doc particularly enjoyed teaching youth religion classes. He loved coaching youth football and baseball, and was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jules and Augustine Rougraff and his beloved wife of 65 years, Regina Rougraff. He is survived by six children, Susan Rougraff, Barbara Pickett, Margaret Paterson (Robert), Joseph Rougraff (Susan), Bruce Rougraff (Rebecca), Paul Rougraff (Barbara), seventeen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church are planned for September 18, 2021.
