Maurice "Max" Smolinske, age 88, passed away on September 17, 2014. He was the beloved husband of the late Elinor Ann (Felts) for 66 years, loving father of Susan (Richard) Domash, Ann (Tom Parmer), Kenneth (Cathy), and Mark (Susan); proud grandfather of Teresa (Michael), Beth (Nate), Daniel (Jessi), Pamela, Faye, Joseph, Jeffrey, Nick, Brent, and Thomas; fond great-grandfather of Calvin, Jansamal, Betty, and Quralai; and dear brother of Don. Max served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He taught mathematics at Froebel and Wirt High Schools in Gary, Indiana. Max enjoyed camping and hiking with his family in the American West, and, in their seventies, he and Elinor took their grandchildren on trips hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. After retirement, Max and Elinor became world travelers, trekking in Nepal, going on safaris in Africa, and hiking the Milford Trek in New Zealand. Max visited all seven continents. Visitation will be on Sunday, September 21, 2014 from 1-3 PM at Flanner and Buchanan- Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, with funeral services at 3 PM.
