Maurice “Maury” D. Rohleder, 93, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025. He was born on August 20, 1932, in Ireland, Indiana, the eldest of ten children.

Maury attended Ireland High School, where he was a three-sport athlete, playing baseball, basketball, and football. After graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, serving four years as a mechanic aboard an aircraft carrier during the Korean War. His military service reflected the values of dedication, discipline, and service that defined his life.

Following his service, Maury attended Evansville College (now the University of Evansville), where he immersed himself fully in campus life. He was a proud member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, competed in baseball, football, and basketball, and participated in numerous clubs and organizations, earning multiple awards along the way. He graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Education, already establishing a reputation for hard work and leadership.

On October 6, 1962, Maury married the love of his life, Lois (Folz). Together they shared nearly 50 years of marriage before her passing in June 2012, building a life grounded in family, faith, and service.

Maury built a long and respected career with Prudential Insurance Company in the life and retirement business. He was deeply committed to helping clients plan for their futures and took great pride in educating and mentoring fellow agents throughout his career. True to his tireless nature, Maury continued working part-time until the age of 90!

A lifelong lover of sports, Maury played and coached softball, enjoyed running and golfing, and was an enthusiastic — and often passionate — spectator. He also enjoyed fishing with his brothers and grandchildren, including many memorable trips to Lake Erie with close friends.

A man of unwavering faith, Maury was a founding member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church and a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as a Charter Grand Knight and Fourth Degree Knight. His commitment to the church was legendary — even the priest joked that Maury was there more than the priest himself! He volunteered countless hours at Seton Fests, blood drives, fish fries, Gibault Children’s Services (Terre Haute), Lord’s Pantry, and many other charitable events.

He had a larger-than-life personality and a smile that could light up any room. He never met a stranger, loved to laugh and have fun, and was almost always the last one to leave a gathering, soaking up every moment with the people around him. He continued to bring joy and laughter until the very end.

One of his greatest points of pride was being a lifelong blood donor. Beginning early in adulthood and continuing for more than seventy years, he gave hundreds of donations (over 35 gallons) — a quiet, steady gift that helped save and improve countless lives. He strongly believed that giving blood contributed to his long life.

Maury is survived by his daughters, Michele (John) Starkey and Andrea (Paul) Lipps; grandchildren, Connor and Jenna Starkey and Rachel Duffley; his sisters, Mary Bohnert and MaDonna (Lloyd) Taylor of Newburgh, IN, Agnes (Brian) Kelly of Kissimmee, FL, and Barbara “Jeanie” (Richard) Weisman and sister-in-law, Linda (Sermersheim) Rohleder, of Jasper, IN; his brothers, Dennis (Carolyn) Rohleder and Stephen (Mary) Rohleder of Jasper, IN; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Marie (Wehr) Rohleder; his wife, Lois (Folz) Rohleder; his sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Rohleder; his brother, Sylvester “Wes” Rohleder; and his sister and brother-in-law, Irma and Terry Friedman.

Maury lived a very full life and will be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather, a faithful servant, mentor, and friend — a man whose integrity, generosity, joy, and strength left a lasting impact on all who knew him. Maury wouldn’t want us to be sad — he would want us to celebrate. Cheers to the man, the myth, the legend!

Visitation will be held from 9:30–10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 10655 Haverstick Road, Carmel, Indiana. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m., with a luncheon afterwards. A private graveside service will take place at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Friends and family are also invited to pray the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, at the church.
