Maurice Edmund Maguire, age 86, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on December 23, 2025. He was born on March 13, 1939, in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he spent much of his life serving others and building lasting relationships.
Maurice was a proud follower of Jesus Christ and lived his faith through service, kindness, and compassion. He had a deep love for his family and was especially devoted to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He played an active role in helping raise his grandchildren, creating cherished memories through trips to Michigan for nature exploration, lighthouse visits, and shared adventures that will be remembered for generations. Maurice had an uncanny knack with animals, especially horses, and was widely known as an animal enthusiast. He was an avid ballroom dancer and dance instructor who shared his passion for music and movement with anyone willing to learn. Music of all kinds filled his life, and his love for dancing was matched only by his sociable nature—Maurice never met a stranger and always led with his heart.
Throughout his life, Maurice dedicated himself to public service. From his early days as a newspaper boy—famously surviving a lightning strike while wearing his yellow raincoat and rubber boots—to his work running ambulance calls with the Lawrence Fire Department, delivering new life into the world, Maurice served with courage and humility. After a long and meaningful career in the medical field, serving in various roles, he continued to give back by volunteering with the Lawrence Fire Department, and American Red Cross. In his personal life, Maurice was a collector of antiques, had a strong interest in firearms, and took joy in the stories and craftsmanship behind the things he loved. His curiosity, generosity, and warmth touched countless lives.
Maurice is survived by his children, Cindy Loyen, Gary Maguire, and David Maguire; his stepchildren, Sheryl Greene and Theresa Harris; and his grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be held in his honor Friday, January 2, from 10:00am to 2:00pm at Flanner & Buchanan - Washington Park East (10755 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229). Funeral Services will immediately follow at 2:00pm. He will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery
