Maurice Dale Smith

Maurice Dale Smith 64, of Indianapolis, passed away March 1, 2012. He was born September 7, 1947 in Elwood, IN to the late Dale and Miriam Smith and grew up in Greentown, IN, attending Eastern Senior High School of Howard County, graduating in 1965. Maury earned his B.S. and M.S. from Purdue University, his secondary school administration certification at Tennessee State University, and his M.A.R. at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He was an educator for 34 years teaching mathematics and coaching football at Salamonie Junior High School in Huntington County, Carmel Junior High School in Hamilton County, and Gallatin Senior High School in Gallatin, TN. Maury served as assistant principal at Shelbyville Middle School, Shelbyville High School, and served as principal at Triton Central High School in Shelby County, and Brown County Junior High School in Nashville, IN. Maury was a founding member of the Shelbyville Community Church, and he was in the first graduating class of the Indiana Principals leadership Academy. Maury is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Linda Louise (Hodges) Smith; children Nathan (Pam) Smith of Greenwood, Kristin (Kevin) Manwarren of Idaho Springs, CO, Julia (Patrick) McCoy of Littleton, CO, and Kyle (Amanda) Smith of Carmel; siblings, Gary Smith of Russiaville, Wendell (Cissa) Smith of Greenfield, Carlene (John) Lawrence of Kokomo, Joseph (Vicki) Smith of Greenfield, Beverly (Max) Bell of Russiaville, and Steve (Pam) Smith of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Hunter Smith, Autumn Smith, Kaylor Smith, Jane McCoy, Madelyn McCoy, Leo Manwarren, and Ella Smith; seven nieces and eleven nephews. Visitation will be at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd. West Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46228 on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park North on Wednesday March 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Committal service will be at the Carmel Cemetery, 1000 N.
