Maureen Sippel

Apr 7, 1943 — Jun 23, 2026

Carmel, IN

Maureen Sippel, 83, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Carmel, IN. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a loyal friend. Maureen was born on April 7, 1943 to Donald and Beatrice Shea in Fond du Lac, WI. She was raised on a dairy farm as a middle child, with an older brother and a younger sister. She attended St. Mary Springs Academy and Marian College in Fond du Lac. She later attended Purdue North Central completing her Masters degree in Education. Maureen was an elementary school teacher for over 40 years.

Maureen and Stan knew each other for 78 years. They grew up together, fell in love, and were married in 1965 in Fond du Lac. They later moved to LaPorte, IN and raised a family of six children: Tony (Mary) Sippel of Moore, SC, Dan (Brenda) Sippel of Lake Wylie, SC, Doug (Kim) Sippel of Spring Park, MN, Ann (Tom) Jones of Orlando, FL, Carrie (Evan) Moss of Westfield, IN, and Dave (Kathryn) Sippel of Kalamazoo, MI.

Maureen had a heart for teaching and service to others. During her years teaching, she touched countless lives while serving at Mill Creek Elementary and St. Joseph’s Catholic School of LaPorte, Immaculate Heart of Mary of Indianapolis, St. Elizabeth Seton Preschool of Carmel; and through her volunteerism with the Psi Iota Xi philanthropic sorority for children’s speech and hearing, Marion County Child Advocates, and the Merciful Help Center at Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

During retirement, Maureen enjoyed traveling, reading, camping, golfing, and visiting family. Maureen loved her 14 grandchildren: Gregory, Eric, Amanda, Madison, Ben, Molly, Tori, Ali, Charlie, Danny, Gabriella, Lena, Brett, and Nick; and her six great-grandchildren: Collins, Henry, Theo, Liam, Hannah, and Holly.

Maureen was a devout Catholic and prayed daily. Her faith modeled a life dedicated to Jesus, to her family, and in serving others. Stan and Maureen are long-time parishioners of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish of Carmel, IN.

Maureen is survived by her loving husband, Stan, and the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren listed above, and sister Mary (Dean) Sylla of Green Bay, WI. Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Beatrice Shea of Fond du Lac, WI, and her brother Terry Shea of Wooster, OH.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Brookdale Assisted Living and Anchor of Hope Hospice staff.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, June 30 from 5-7pm at Flanner Buchanan Funeral Home, 325 E. Carmel Dr., Carmel, IN.

Further visitation will be held Wednesday, July 1 from 10-11am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 14598 Oak Ridge Rd., Carmel, IN, immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am.

A graveside service will follow at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Cemetery, 9001 Haverstick Rd., Indianapolis, IN.
