Matthew Allan Hess

Matthew Hess of Conifer, Colorado, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 9, 1974, in Indianapolis to Richard and Katherine Hess.

A devoted Christian who loved the Lord, Matthew lived with a vibrant passion for life, defined by faith, integrity, and an unwavering devotion to his family as a dedicated husband and loving father. He always put his family first and led by example in everything he did, consistently choosing to do the right thing no matter the circumstance. A true outdoorsman at heart, he found his greatest peace in nature—whether hunting, fishing, hiking, climbing Colorado mountains, or camping with family and friends. Exceptionally smart, he dove deep into researching anything that caught his interest, and his skill as a carpenter reflected that same steady, thoughtful spirit. With a huge heart, he was a friend to everyone and touched the heart of every person he met.

Matthew is survived by his loving wife of nearly 34 years, Stephanie Hess; his daughters, Isabella and Madison Hess; his mother, Katherine Hess; his brother, Joe Hess; and his sister, Kimberly Hernandez.

Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Richard Hess.

A proud disabled Veteran, Matthew served in the United States Navy from 1992 to 1996. His dedication to serving his country continued throughout his life as a federal employee with the Department of Energy and as a volunteer with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

A memorial service will be held at Heather Hills Baptist Church, 1421 N. German Church Road, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46229, on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. A time of visitation will be available from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Flanner Buchanan, Washington Park East.
