Matthew Cornacchione, II

Matthew Cornacchione II, “Big Matt”, passed away peacefully on January 12th, with family and his beloved dog, Pete Magoo, by his side. He was 80 years old.

Born on October 12th, 1945, in Battle Creek, Michigan, Matthew, aka “Nippie”, was the son of Dr. Matthew and Janice Cornacchione. He grew up in Indianapolis and Fort Wayne, Indiana. He later attended Indiana University, where he belonged to Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and graduated in 1968.

Matthew spent 24 years as the Controller at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, followed by a position as the Vice President of Finance at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School. He ended his working career as the Business Manager for the Indiana Sports Corp.

In his free time, Matthew enjoyed bingo, golf, trivia nights, and poker with the boys. He was an active member of the St. Christopher Catholic Church, where he was an integral member of bingo operations and the annual St. Chris Fish Fry.

Matthew was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many (including furry, 4-legged friends that bark). He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Susan; his children, Teri (Jeff) Wood, Matthew (Allison) Cornacchione, and Amie (Chuck) Brown; his grandchildren, Even, Jacob, and Sara Tharp; Elizabeth Cornacchione; and Sebastian, Arabella, and Emmersyn Brown; and his brother, Kenneth. Matthew was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony.

He will be missed for his kindness, generosity, ability to make everyone laugh, and his ever-present pockets full of dog treats for all of his furry friends.

Visitation services will be held on January 20, 2026, at the Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Home, Speedway at 2950 N. High School Rd. from 11:00am – 1:00pm. Memorial service to immediately follow.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Hamilton County or the IU Simon Cancer Center.
