Mary Evelyn Swift

Mary Evelyn Swift, 79, passed away on March 17, 2026. Mary was born on July 3, 1946, to William Richard and Mandy Wise.

Mary dedicated many years of her life to serving her community as a sheriff for Marion County, earning the respect of colleagues and citizens alike through her unwavering dedication and integrity. A true public servant, she approached her work with strength, compassion, and a deep sense of duty. Outside of her career, she loved going to Florida with family. And over the years, almost all of her family lived with her at one point or another. Even if it was only for a short time, she opened her home when family needed her. Mary found joy in playing poker, where her skill was matched only by her legendary poker face. Another joy in her life was her beloved dogs. They were her babies, and she certainly spoiled them. Above all, she loved deeply and wholeheartedly, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; and siblings Danny Richard, and Alice Babrick. Mary is survived by her siblings Lisa (Mark) Richard, Morris (Julie) Richard, Larry Richard and Ronnie Richard; chosen son Neil (Heather) Tremblett; nieces and nephews Michelle, Nick, Dustin, Kimmey, Carrie, Missy, Amy, Willie, Josh; and many other close friends and family.

Visitation for Mary is scheduled for Monday, March 23, 2026, from 12:00-2:00pm at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East Funeral Home, 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229. Funeral services will take place at 2:00pm officiated by Neil Tremblett. Burial will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery.
