Mary “Sista” Slaughter, aged 104, passed away peacefully on 07/06/2024, at home, with the love of her family nearby.
Mary was born on October 29, 1919, in Elkton, KY, to Sam and Ownie Wisdom; alongside 4 siblings. She graduated from Todd County High School in Elkton, KY. Mary moved to Indianapolis, In in 1944, where she met and married Dallas Slaughter. She retired from RCA after many years.
Mary was pleasant with a welcoming spirit. Mary loved to eat, dance, sing, play bingo and skate. Mary loved her family and had a contagious smile. Mary also loved to fellowship; she joined Phillips Temple CME Church; alongside her late husband Dallas. In her later years, she joined Barnes United Methodist Church. There was no secret that Mary loved the Lord. Her righteousness and obedience earned her “The Reward”. “I will reward them” God promises a long life to the person who trusts him and loves him, Psalms 91:16.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three siblings. She leaves to cherish her memory: her sister, Susie Mays; her grandson, Jerry Slaughter Jr; a host of nieces and nephews; including an extraordinary nephew Roderick Mays, who was the sole caregiver for the last 5 years. Rod went above and beyond the call of duty, Sista never wanted or needed for anything. He was the chosen one, a God sent and for that reason, his rewards are stored up in heaven, Psalms 16:11. A special thanks to her caretakers Yolanda Taylor, Viveca Mcintush and Keda Wooden.
