MARY ROSE GUTHRIE, the daughter of the late Elgin Sr. and Frances McMillian, was born August 5, 1929 in Alexandria, Alabama.
MARY relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1949 and was united in marriage to James E. Guthrie, Sr. in 1951.
MARY was an intelligent and savvy business woman and entrepreneur. She owned two successful businesses in her lifetime. B & G Blue Ribbon Ice Cream Parlor being the first. The ice cream parlor was loved and supported by the entire neighborhood. People affectionately referred to her as "The Ice Cream Lady". Her second business was a residential cleaning service. Mary's clients received far more than cleaning. She gave them her love, advise, and time. The businesses she owned allowed her to positively impact and forever change the lives of all those that came into contact with her.
MARY professed a hope and strong belief in Christ at an early age. She joined Christ Missionary Baptist Church in 1960. Mary served faithfully as an Usher and an Advisor to the Young People's Church Ministry.
MARY had a wonderful sense of humor. When asked how she was doing she always responded, "I'm dying slow, but shew (sure)". Regardless of whom she came in contact with, she never had any problem with giving advise, solicited or not. Mary always said, "I'm not trying to tell you what to do, I'm just trying to give you some advise...ise".
MARY ROSE GUTHRIE departed this life on Friday, September 27, 2013 at the glorious age of 84. She was preceded in death by seven brothers, three grandchildren, and one niece.
