Mary Pauline DeMont McCracken 91, Indianapolis, died March 5, 2011. Mary was born January 4, 1920 in Rochester, IN, daughter of Earl and Alta DeMont. She grew up on a farm south of Argos, IN. Upon graduating from Argos High School, she worked for the Kizer Jewelry Store in Plymouth, IN. She married Bruce H. McCracken May 10, 1940 in Plymouth, IN. They were married 60 years before he passed away in 2001.
Mary was a homemaker raising 2 sons, James and Richard. Her husband, Bruce, worked for RCA in many of their plants. Together they lived in Evansville, IN, Bloomington, IN, Marion, IN, Lancaster, PA, and Midland Ontario Canada. Upon Bruce’s retirement from RCA, they returned to Indiana to be near their son in Indianapolis. During their retirement, they traveled throughout the United States in an RV creating many wonderful memories.
Mary was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. She had been a member of the Delta Theta Tau Sorority in Marion, IN. She was a Red Cross Volunteer at the hospital in Lancaster, PA. She spent many years serving as a volunteer for the White Cross Guild of Indianapolis.
Survivors: 2 sons, James (Marie) McCracken Indianapolis, IN and Richard (Ann) McCracken, Virginia Beach, VA; 2 granddaughters, Laura McCracken and Jennifer (Ken) Kirchoff; 2 great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kayleigh Kirchoff; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center – Speedway on Thursday, March 10th at 2pm with visitation from 12-2pm prior to service starting. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 963 N. Girls School Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46214
