Mary Inez Owens

September 30, 1937 — May 26, 2026

Indianapolis, IN

Mary Owens, 88, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Tuesday morning, May 26, 2026, at Franciscan Health in Mooresville. Born on September 30, 1937, in Ritter Hollow, McDowell County, West Virginia, Mary grew up surrounded by the rugged beauty of the mountains and the deep family bonds that shaped her gentle, giving spirit. Mary lived a life defined by love, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.

Mary was one of nine children born to the Roberts family. She was preceded in death by her brothers Elijah ("Liege"), Elisha ("Buster"), Lawrence ("Clell"), Ezra ("Ray"), and Edward Roberts; and her sisters Eunice Stenson and Annie Gibson. She is survived by her brother Dalton Roberts, who carries forward the family's legacy of resilience and closeness.

Her husband of 67 years, Everett Owens, has shared life's journey with her. Their marriage was a true partnership – steady, loving, and enduring. Together they built a home filled with warmth, faith, and the kind of love that shaped generations.

A devoted mother, Mary is survived by her three sons – Charles (Faye) Owens, Barry (Laurie) Owens, and Douglas (Jodie) Owens – who were the pride and joy of her life. She was also a loving grandmother. She is preceded in death by her grandchild Marissa Owens. She is survived by her grandchildren Samantha Owens (James), Thomas (Emilie) Owens, Zachary (Tyler) Owens, and Drew Owens, each of whom she held dearly in her heart.

Mary’s legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy: Kimber Owens (11), Natalie Owens (10), Olivia Owens (8), Amma Owens-Ray (7), and Freya Owens (5). Her face lit up whenever she spoke of them.

Mary worked for RCA for many years and later retired from the company. She was known for her strong work ethic, reliability, and the pride she took in contributing to her family’s well-being. Her dedication at work mirrored the dedication she showed at home – steady, humble, and full of heart.

Mary was known for her kindness, her gentle spirit, perceptiveness, and her willingness to sacrifice for others. She welcomed everyone with warmth and treated friends and strangers alike with compassion. Her home was a place of comfort – filled with the aromas of her cooking, the beauty of her garden, and the laughter of those she loved. Hosting family gatherings was one of her greatest pleasures, and she created memories that will be cherished for generations.

A woman of deep faith, Mary attended Eternal Life Baptist Church in Mooresville, where she found fellowship, purpose, and peace. The church members were dear friends.

Mary’s life was a testament to love – quiet, steady, and enduring. She will be remembered not only for what she did, but for who she was: a mother who gave everything, a sister who cared deeply, a friend who listened, and a woman whose kindness touched every life she encountered.

She has left us for her home in Heaven. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is reunited with so many loved ones who went before her, and that her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
