Mary Martha Dome

Mary Martha Dome, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away at her residence on July 13, 2023. She was born on June 23, 1937, in Lafayette, IN to the late Virgil E. and Lois Elizabeth (Martin) Dome. She started school in Pine Village, IN and graduated from Zionsville High School in 1955. She attended Ball State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the Ball State School of Nursing in 1959. Mary was just starting her nursing career when a car accident required that she re-learn her nursing skills, which she did. She then was a nurse at several Indianapolis hospitals, including Methodist and Wishard hospitals. She ended her nursing career doing long-term private duty care. She also did office work at the Pyramids and various jobs at Meijer.

Mary has been a member of the East 91^st Street Christian Church in Indianapolis for almost 50 years. She had great joy singing in the church choir, and she travelled to England with them to sing in some of the great cathedrals. She was overjoyed when they visited Egypt and the Holy Lands.

For many years, Mary happily decorated the monthly bulletin board at the church, and she cheerfully continued to do the monthly calendar at her apartment complex. She was a founding member of the new Legacy Bible Church in Fishers, IN.

Mary made so many people a little happier by lovingly preparing and sending her “happy” monthly calendar letters to friends and family. Mary and her “cheerful” monthly letters will be missed.

Mary is survived by her sister, Sandra “Sonie” (Dome) (Chuck) Slayton of West Lafayette, IN; nephews and nieces: Robert (Colette) Harlan of Deerfield, IL; Melanie (John) Hildebrandt of Schaumburg, IL; Gail (Brian) Dick of Lafayette; Missy (Avery) Fuller of Indiahoma, OK; Susan Slayton Whaley of Lafayette; and Matthew (Barb) Slayton of Mulberry, IN. She is also survived by grandnieces and grandnephews: Samantha Collins of Lafayette; John Harlan and Julia Harlan of Chicago, IL; Luke Hildebrandt of Schaumburg, IL; Kayla Dick and Kylie Dick of Lafayette; and Ashley Slayton and Abby Slayton of Mulberry.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, and by her sister, Elizabeth Sue Dome.

A Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 10:00 am-12:00 pm at the Peace Chapel, Crown Hill Mausoleum, 700 38^th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 pm, followed by inurnment at the Crown Hill Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be given in Mary’s name to the donor’s choice of charity.
