Mary Lou Mcclary

Mary Lou McClary, 92,  formerly of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022.  She was born on May 20, 1929 in Terre Haute, IN as the only child born to the late Joy Dexter ‘JD’ and Amy Lenora (Waters) May.

Mary Lou was 1947 graduate of Thomas Howe High School.  She worked for a few years for Indiana Bell telephone company as a switchboard operator before marrying the love of her life, Frank William McClary in 1949.  Together they celebrated 62 years of marriage before his death in 2011.

They were longtime residents of Lawrence, Indiana and were very involved with their church, Lawrence Christian Church.  Mary Lou taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and served as a youth sponsor.  She also volunteered for the Vacation Bible School programs, was a member and former president of the Women’s Circle and hosted regular bible study classes in her home.  Mary Lou was devoted to caring for others and would regularly help church and community members by driving them to appointments or helping them with errands.

She faithfully sent out birthday and anniversary cards every year to all her friends and family.  Mary Lou also enjoyed photographing flowers and keeping memories close by scrapbooking.  She had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel.  Mary Lou was always happy to be on the move with places to go and people to see.

She is survived by her children, David (Thelma) McClary, Amy (Terry) Ruff and Kendra King; 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.  Mary Lou is also survived by her best friend from high school, Dorothy Baugh.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; and son-in-law, Paul King, who passed away in 2005.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 11am-1pm at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East with a funeral service immediately following.  Mary Lou will be laid to rest with her husband in Oaklandon Cemetery.
