Mary Lavonne Darland

Mary LaVonne Darland, 77, of Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2016. She was born in Indianapolis to the late Karl Otto and Ethel Marie (Marion) Schmid. Mary was a 1956 graduate of Lawrence Central High School and worked for many years as a secretary for the IMPD Homicide Dept. She also spent time at home cooking for her family, gardening and canning vegetables. Mary was very involved in the Eastern Star and Ladies of the Nile and enjoyed traveling, especially her trips to Alaska. She is survived by her children, Marie (Tim) Broderick, Karl (Debbie) Darland, Nancy (Tom) Moore, Marilyn Schafer; and 10 grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, George William Darland; and grandson, Nicholas Schafer. Funeral services for Mrs. Darland will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at 4pm at Flanner and Buchanan – Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service, also at the funeral home.
