Mary L. Lofton

May 17, 1938 — July 16, 2021

Fishers, Indiana

Mrs. Mary L. Lofton, age 83 of Fisher, IN, was called home to be with the Lord on July 16, 2021.  Mary was born in Mendenhall, MS on May 17, 1938 to Johnnie and Katie Gregory. Mary married Annise Lofton on July 4, 1957. To this union three boys were born.

For more than 35 years, Mary was a faithful member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of late pastor Rev. Coleman. She became a faithful member of Southern M. B. Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Robert P. Wormely where she worked faithfully with the Nurses Guild. Mary later joined United Vision Baptist Church where she was a founding member of the Mother’s Board.

Mary loved caring for her family including her marital family, parents, sibling, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She extended that passion to the community as a whole.  Mary—who always had a warm and inviting demeanor, however will not hesitate to correct one’s behavior if she feel disrespected. Mary could often be found baking one of her signature pound cakes— became known in the community as “Granny.” If didn’t have a family she was quick to ensure you were accepted, and she gave love and had a way of making you feel special.

One final request of Greg and Dennis was to see the street they lived on for over 50 years (1600 block of Indiana Ave, Toledo, OH) named to Annise Lofton Way, later to be renamed Annise and Mary Lofton Way. Mary lived approximately 3 months after the dedication. Special Thanks to Council Woman Vanice Williams and Toledo City Council

Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years Annise (until his passing November 2, 2016), son Cordell (Adrienne) (February 24, 2018), parents; grandparents; two brothers & one sisters.

Mary is survived by her); and sons: Gregory (Annie) of Toledo, OH & Dennis (Ann) of Fishers, Indiana, Michael, Willie, Robert, Nagee, Demond Charlie, daughters: Erica, Christine, Rachel, and Denicia; Brother: Edward Earl Gregory and Sisters: Margell Campbell, thirty-four grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and eleven godchildren, (Alexander Family & Sherrie Jackson); and her United Vision Church Family.

“Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

-Matthew 5:16

Memories of her smile, special times you shared,

And the kind of person she was will live in your heart always.
