Mary Kathryn Unser

Mary Kathryn Unser, 89, of Carmel, IN, passed away on June 26, 2022. She was born on September 9, 1932, in Farmington, MN, to the late Edward and Nelda Minnick.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to any and all.

Mary and Bill were owners of Leisure World Outdoor Furniture in Winter Haven, Florida.

After selling their business Mary and Bill retired to Clermont, FL where they were active at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.  Mary was well known for her crochet skills. Literally thousands of her afghans, lap robes and baby blankets are in households around the world. From the USA to Africa these pieces of art were in constant demand. She never accepted any form of payment. The smiles on faces her work created were payment enough.  She was an avid scrabble player and enjoyed playing with her children and grandchildren.  She also cherished spending Saturday evenings with her friends at Rose Senior Living playing euchre.

Mary is survived by her children, Jeanine Thomas of Minneapolis, MN, Thomas Blackford (Debbie) of Victorville, CA, Terry Blackford (Victoria) of Savage, MN, Timothy Blackford of Northfield, MN, Jennifer Hudson (Robb) of Westfield, IN, and Donna Davila (Norberto) of Clover, SC; siblings, Margaret Zinsmaster of Van Wert, OH, Dan Minnick (Nancy) of Camarillo, CA, and Phyllis Norris of Highland, CA; 20 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; and a large extended second family at Rose Senior Living in Carmel.

Mary is preceded in passing by her husband, William Unser; parents; brothers, Francis Minnick and Richard Minnick; and sister, Carole Minnick.

She will be laid to rest at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL next to her husband, Bill, a Korean War Veteran.
