Mary Kathryn “Kitty” Baker, 96, of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022. She was born on October 5,1926 in Kokomo, Indiana to the late Dr. William Robert and Vivian Clark Morrison.
Kitty, as she was known to family and friends, graduated from Kokomo High School and earned a BA in Fine Arts from Indiana University in 1948. In college she was active in many organizations including the Mortar Board. Kitty married her best friend and high school sweetheart, James Robert Baker on February 11, 1950.
Kitty gave her time, talent and treasures as she volunteered for many organizations in Indianapolis. Some of which are Meridian Street United Methodist Church, Delta Gamma Sorority, P.E.O., Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra (past president of the women’s committee and served on the board for nine years), Benefe, Tri Kappa, Contemporary Club and Bible Study Fellowship. She was also a member of the I.U. Alumni Association, I.U. Varsity Club, the I.U. Foundation, the 1820 Society, the President’s Circle and the Well House Society. Kitty was a Charter Member of the Indianapolis Zoo and the Eiteljorg Museum.
Kitty was a talented artist and accomplished musician. Jim and Kitty were international travelers and visited 27 countries. Kitty was a strong Christian and her faith was important to her.
Kitty is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 72 years, Jim Baker; daughters, Debby (Dan) Fairley, Kathy (Chris) Christea; grandchildren, Jonathan, James and Peter (Ali) Fairley, Madelyn and Natalie Christea; and many nephews and nieces.
Kitty was preceded in death by her parents; son, William Robert Baker; and sisters, Peggy Van Horn and Betty Land.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the I.U. Foundation or the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
