Mary Katharine "Kathy" Black

Mary Katharine “Kathy” Black of Indianapolis, 76, passed away on December 16, 2017.

Kathy was born November 18, 1941 to the late Stephen and Mary Deckro in Valparaiso, Indiana.

She is survived by son Jay Black, Grandson Alex Black, brother Stephen (Sherry) Deckro, brother John (Mary Jo) Deckro, sister Valeurie Grieger and three nieces Stephanie Deckro, Sarah Lawrence and Sydney Deckro.  She was preceded in death by her brother William Deckro.

Kathy graduated from Valparaiso High School 1959, South Bend College of Commerce 1960 and Purdue North Central (Westville) 1984. Her work career included Midwest Steel 1961-1963 (Portage), Purdue University 1963-1965 (West Lafayette), Arno Adhesive Tape 1972-1981, Weil-McLain 1981-1984 (Michigan City) and Resort Condominiums International 1985-2007 (Indianapolis). Kathy was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church, Indianapolis. She served as a member of the Sunshine Ministry and was a Cursillo member. Her greatest joys were her beloved son and family members, as well as traveling and meeting with her many friends over breakfast, lunch or dinner.

A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, December 21, 2017 beginning at 1 PM with a Memorial Visitation 12 noon until the time of mass at St. Monica Catholic Church, 6131 N. Michigan Road, Indianapolis, 46228. Private interment of ashes at St. Paul Cemetery in Valparaiso will be held at a later date.
