Mary L. Jensen-Jamsa was born on January 22, 1929 to Verner and Edith Norvell Thomas in Grand Junction, CO the third of four children (Jack, Dorothy, and Richard) and spent her childhood growing up in the cattle ranching communities of Yampa and Craig CO. Affectionately known as Peggy, she met her husband Arnold L. Jensen in Craig after the war and they were married in 1947. Within a few short years, she moved with her husband and newborn son from her beloved Rocky Mountains of Colorado to Iowa where they raised five children. She worked as a telephone operator for years and later as a hospital admitting clerk. She and her husband retired in 1987 to Indianapolis, IN where two of her five children resided. Leaving retirement, she then worked for many years for the Indianapolis Public Library. Her life of faith and love for God was spent in loving service to her family, her church, and her many friends.
Mary was preceded in death by all of her siblings, a granddaughter Mercy in 1987, her husband Arnold in 2003 and one son, Mark D. Jensen in 2010.
Over the years in Indianapolis, she was a member of Holy Trinity Evangelical Orthodox Church, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, and at the time of her death, Saints Constantine and Elena Orthodox Church. In the last two years of her life she found love again and married Kenneth E. Jamsa and moved to Plymouth, IN where she resided for one year before she began her battle with cancer.
She reposed peacefully December 28, 2012 in the home of her daughter in Indianapolis surrounded by love and prayer.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth, her sons Kenneth G. (Kathy L.) Jensen of Indianapolis, Tom A. (Patricia K.) Jensen of Gold River, CA, and Craig A. Jensen, Cleghorn IA, a daughter Janene E. (Rev. Fr. David T.) Wey of Indianapolis, IN, and a daughter-in-law Margie C. Jensen of Waynesboro, VA, seventeen grandchildren, Jessica (Jason) Kersey, Jolene (Matthew) Knee, Mary (Matthew) Ozment, Priscilla (Brian) Jackson, David and Alex Jensen, Artemis and Alathea Jensen, Abigail, Jonathan (Elesha) and Jesse Wey, Alesa (Nathan) DeJager, Marianna, John (Rachae), James, and Joseph Jensen, ten greatgrandchildren, Sierra Rhodes, Madelyn and Brock Knee, Trey and Alec Ozment, Novak Jackson, Gideon Wey, Halene and Samuel DeJager, Quade Jensen, and numerous nephews and nieces. All will mourn her loss as well as three stepchildren, Diane (Peter) Alberts, Daniel (Kristen) Jamsa and Sonya (Mark) Boekenhauer with four step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Alberts, Amy, Nathan, and Patrick Jamsa, and Erich and Jared Boekenhauer.
Services will be held at Saints Constantine and Elena Orthodox Church with public visitation Thursday, January 3, 2013 from 5p to 730p followed by the Trisagion Prayers for the Departed at the church. Funeral services will be held at the church, Friday January 4, 2013 at 1pm. Burial is at Floral Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Mary asked that donations be made to Hagia Sophia Classical Academy, 10107 Guilford Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46280. May her memory be eternal.
