Mary Herman

Mary Patricia "Pat" Herman of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2012 at Community North Hospital. She was 85. She was born on May 3, 1927 in Marion, Indiana, the oldest of three children born to the late Harry and Helen (Coats) Shildmyer. Pat attended St. Paul's High School in Marion. She started her working career in the mid-1940's working as a Secretary at Carmichael Abstract Company. She then worked as a Record Keeper at the Grant County Recorder's Office; a Secretary at Campbell, Gemmill, Brown and Ewer, and finished her career as a Secretary at Osborn Paper. She then chose to be a Stay at Home mom where she raised her five children. After moving to Indianapolis, she became involved in the St. Lawrence Catholic Church community as a member of the church choir, a lectern reader, prepared food for church events, supported her children in various sports, and was a member of the bowling league. Pat loved spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren. She had many fond memories of vacationing and canoeing with friends, hosting parties, and going to lunch with girlfriends. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Donald Herman, and their five children: Steve (Pam) Herman, Jim (Kellie) Herman, Dan Herman, Tom (Sandy) Herman, Kathi (Rick) Davis; 13 grandchildren (Chrissy, Heather, Madison, Eric, Justin, Zachary, Taylor, Andrew, Nikki, Rick Jr., Sara, Mahalia, and Cienna); her brother Tom Shildmyer, and 11 nephews and nieces. The Herman family wishes to thank the ICU and Hospice staff of Community North for taking great care of their mother and grandmother. Friends and family will gather for visitation Monday, November 19, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Flanner and Buchanan –Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis. A 10:00 a.m. mass will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 4100 E. 56th St, Indianapolis with burial following at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Pantry, 3001 East 30th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46218.
