Mary Ellen Hilton

Mary Ellen Hilton, 89, of Indianapolis, peacefully passed away at 3:24 am, Tuesday July 29th , at Brown County Health and Living, with her sons by her side. She was born January 19th, 1925, the only child to Helen and Louis Schneider, winner of the 1931 Indianapolis 500. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert M. Hilton, daughter JoAnne Fultz, grandson Donald Fultz, and son Danny Hilton. She is survived by her sons Timothy (Carol) Hilton, Allen (Jean) Hilton; grandchildren Jeremy, Hillary, Tara, Kyle, Jessica, Josh, Bobby, Mary Jo, Norman, and Donald; 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She attended Oldenburg Catholic Boarding School and Tipton Catholic Girls High School. Mary worked at Indiana Bell as a telephone operator in the 1940's and as a hotel night auditor, She loved being of service to everyone. She was a past State Counsel of the Daughters of America. At the age of 62, Mary volunteered as a chauffeur at the Pan American Games and was known for driving around corners on 2 wheels. Although Mary lived in many cities from coast to coast, Indianapolis remained her home. Her mischievous smile, uncanny ability for humor and endless supply of peppermint candy made every minute spent with her unforgettable. Funeral services will be held at noon, Saturday, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 6000 W 34th Street, Indianapolis, with calling from 10 am until time of service.
