Mary Elizabeth Bratton

July 5, 1936 — August 12, 2021

Indianapolis, IN

Mary Elizabeth King Bratton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend transitioned to Heaven, surrounded by family on August 12, 2021.

Mary was born July 5, 1936, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Reva and Thomas King. Her family, including her sister Dorothy and brother Thomas later moved to Indianapolis where Mary attended Arsenal Tech High School.  It was at Arsenal Tech that Mary met the love of her life, Jerry Lawrence Bratton. They were married August 20, 1954, and began an amazing partnership that would span seven decades. Mary was the perfect practical balance to Jerry’s grand visions and together they ran a successful business and raised two wonderful children, Beth and Jeff.

Mary loved to read and was rarely seen without a book. She was also a wonderful cook, and she and Jerry spent countless hours playing tennis, and often invited friends to join them. Mary could never walk past a child without smiling, or a baby without stopping to say hello. Her greatest joy was being “Grammy” to her grandson, Jeffrey.  Family gatherings at their Marco Island condo when Jeffrey was little were some of her favorite vacations.

Mary and Jerry are followers of Jesus and are members of Traders Point Christian Church. They opened their home to many over the years, hosting small groups and bible studies. They wanted everyone to know and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

Mary is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jerry; her daughter, Elizabeth (Gary) Rovazzini; grandson Jeffrey; step-grandchildren, Adam Rovazzini (Meghan), Brooke Shemms (Bobby); sister Dorothy Serrano; brother, Thomas King; and beloved nieces and nephews. Mary is preceded in passing by her son, Jeffrey Lawrence Bratton.
