Mary V. Dunham

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.” — Revelation 21:4

Today we gather not only to remember a beautiful life but to celebrate a glorious homecoming. On Sunday, August 2, 2026, Mary V. Dunham heard the words every believer longs to hear: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” She has traded the limitations of this earthly life for the perfection of eternity, where she now walks with Jesus—whole, restored, and forever free. 

Mary was born on November 29, 1952, to Paul Marquette and Barbara Marquette. She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents and her beloved sister, Nanette Wicklund, who preceded her in death. A proud graduate of Kellam High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Mary valued education and continued her studies through several universities before beginning a rewarding career with the VA Medical Center, where she faithfully served as a secretary for more than 17 years. Her dedication, kindness, and servant’s heart touched countless lives throughout her career. 

To know Mary was to know unconditional love. She had one of the biggest hearts anyone could ever encounter. She was the most independently dependent person you could ever meet. She wanted none of your help, yet because of her courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis, she often needed all of your help. Even through every challenge, she refused to let her circumstances define her. Her determination was unmatched, her stubbornness legendary, her wit unforgettable, and her love for her family immeasurable. 

While Multiple Sclerosis affected her body, it never conquered her spirit. 

Today, we rejoice because Mary’s battle is over. She is no longer confined by pain, weakness, or disease. She has received a brand-new, perfect body. She is walking without limitation, laughing without pain, worshiping without interruption, and resting in the everlasting presence of her Savior. What she believed by faith, she now sees with her own eyes. 

Mary leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through those who cherished her most. She is lovingly remembered by her devoted son, Jason M. Dunham; her daughter-in-love, Elenora Dunham; her brothers, Dave Marquette and Kent Marquette; and her treasured grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends whose lives were forever enriched by knowing her. 

Although we will miss her deeply, we do not grieve without hope. We celebrate because Heaven gained a beautiful soul, and one day, through the grace of Jesus Christ, we will be reunited. 

Until that glorious day, Mary’s laughter, strength, unwavering love, and remarkable spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
