Mary Dean Collins

Mary Dean Collins, 93, died March 15, 2019, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.

Mary was born March 10, 1926, in Marshall County, TN, the only child of Robbie Lee (Dodd) and Johnny Marvin Haislip. She spent her childhood and early teen years in TN, before moving to the greater Louisville, KY, area in 1942 and settling in Sellersburg, IN, in 1956.

She married Samuel L. (SL) Collins on March 8, 1941, in Athens, AL. To their union was born a son, Samuel D. Collins.

Mary focused on being a wife, mother, and homemaker. For a few years in the 1960s she worked in a clothing factory. In 2003 she and her husband moved to Anderson, IN. They celebrated 70 years of marriage before SL’s death in 2011. In 2015, she moved to Indianapolis, IN, to share a home with her son and daughter-in-law and to help provide childcare for her great-grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Sharon Collins; grandsons, Jeff (Jeanie Han) Collins and Scott (Ashley Anstaett) Collins; and great-grandsons Simon, Rowan, and Graham, all of Indianapolis, IN. Also surviving are extended family: Virginia Simmons, Larry and Jannifer Rice and family, Larry and Beth Rozell and family, Jim and Carol Lynne Usher and family, Nancy Howard and family, Steve and Jeanne Quam and family, Rod and Mona Carroll and family, Jeremy Butler, Keith and Melanie Musser and family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd. West Dr., Indianapolis, IN, on Friday, March 22 at 11 AM. Visitation will be held 9-11 AM prior to the service. Entombment will be at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park Chapel, 2778 Charlestown Road, New Albany, IN, on Friday, March 22 at 2:30 PM.
