Mary Jane Batt Claffey

Mary Jane Batt Claffey, age 98 of Lutz, Florida, formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Friday morning, July 3, 2026 in Lutz, Florida.

She was born on October 2nd, 1927, to Robert L. and Mary Haverkampt Batt in Brazil, IN. Mary was the oldest of six siblings and the last surviving one. The family moved to Indianapolis in 1942, and she graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1945.

She lived in Detroit, Michigan suburb from February 1948 to July 1950, working for Ford Motor Company as a secretary. She maintained seniority with Ford Motor Company when she returned to Indianapolis and left Ford in September 1953 with marriage to Norman E Travis. They had three children.

She was a homemaker while her children were in school, returning to the workforce in 1979 as a temporary for Manpower Inc. She accepted assignment at Aero Mayflower Transit and advanced to Secretary of the Department Manager. In March 1977, upon his retirement, she accepted the position as his replacement, also being appointed as the Asst. Secretary of the Transit Co. and the Mayflower Corporation. She left Mayflower in 1986.

Mary Jane married Richard E. Claffey in January 1985. They spent as much time as possible on Long Boat Key, Fl, traveling extensively, making all 50 States for him and 47 for her.

In 1988, she again worked for Kelly Services as temporary staff on assignment to Aetna Insurance, and then permanent employment leaving when the Indianapolis office moved out of state.

Mary Jane leaves a very loving family of which she was very proud. Daughter Susan K Ford, husband Larry of Fort Meyers, Florida, sons: Michael T. Travis, wife Yuly of Lutz, Florida, and Gregg R. Travis, wife April of Madison, Alabama.

Six Grandchildren: Travis & Trevor Keesling, Joshua Travis, Cynthia Bryant, Gregg Allen, and Skyler Travis, and one Step Grandchild, Alexandra DeGolyer.

She also has eight great grandchildren she adored.

Most importantly Mary Jane was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, relative and friend to many who will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan - Floral Park Funeral Center, located at 425 N. Holt Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46222.

The funeral service to celebrate Mary Jane's life will follow at 3:00 PM. Rev. Ellwood Smith will officiate.

Burial will follow at Floral Park Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Pall Bearers will be: Joshua, Travis, Trevor, Gregg Allen, Rylan, and Caleb.

Flanner Buchanan - Floral Park Funeral Center has charge of arrangements.
